We had rain all day and I have not been out of the house for longer than it took to fetch this flower.
In a way I like studio work. It’s so … repeatable. You can experiment with flashes, flash modes, additional light sources, compositions, and you have all the time in the world to get it right.
In this case I used the two flashes of my R2D2, a bluish white LED light and slow flash mode for keeping the background from getting black. After the fact I made some adjustments to white balance in Camera RAW towards blue/green. The first helped the background, the second kept detail in the red petals. Slightly cropping from both sides finally helped satisfying my diagonal passions 🙂

Thanks John. It took me 30 exposures to reach that point, but now I am quite satisfied too 🙂
Regarding the Sigma, well, I'm a shallow-DOF freak, and if I wouldn't be somewhat tight on money at the moment, I certainly would buy the Sigma 20/1.8 as well. I saw some very impressive shots with it. And it's the same again: open wide, go very near.

Must you use this lighting device with a tripod? I am actually distracted by the sharpness and color palette. I'm not sure that's a good thing. Although it feels picky to grope about such mastery... Hmmmm....

I continue to enjoy visiting the blog. In the past week I have especially enjoyed Sweet Confusion and How Many Colors.
I appreciate your including the commentary about post-processing along with occasionaly info about lens choices, etc. I'm like you with lenses--I tend to put a lens on the camera and work with it for awhile, adapting to a particular way of seeing. I've been admiring the shots you get with the Sigma 30mm--perhaps that is one I should consider.
