295 - The Long Way

Hmm .. what did we have for yesterday? Uhh yes, Tom Waits, and today it’s … Tom Waits again? Sorry, I can’t help it 🙂

The Song of the Day is “Long Way Home” from the tree-disc masterpiece “Orphans - Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards”. Really: if you only buy one Tom Waits CD, make sure it’s “Orphans”. It’s so incredibly good. And then go and hear it, and when you can’t stand it having none other, then go out and buy “Raindogs”, see Jim Jarmusch’s “Down by Law”, and when you’re not hooked by then, I don’t know what.

And this image? Taken today on my way to Keutschacher See. Nikon 18-200, 200mm at f13, shot from the tripod. It may not look like it, but I did a fair amount of post-processing, first in Capture NX, and then in Photoshop using Lab and a “Man from Mars” for color variety in the grass.

I really like the nice gentle S curves of the path. And the colours work so well together. That blue post amidst all that green should clash shouldn't it? Or is my limited understanding of colour theory even more limited than I thought? Anyway, it certainly works here. Nice capture.

I'll second all you said about Orphans... Andreas. It really is a testament to Tom Waits' versatility as an artist.

Should it clash? Well, no, it should not. Let's see: this "green" is much more yellow than green, but, you're right, I should have pushed the "blue" towards purple. Hmm ... I'm gonna replace the image in a minute ... minutes pass ... done!

Thanks, I really should have seen that myself 🙂

To all late-comers: the hydrant came out of the camera in sort of a pale-blue, and saturating it, I had not noticed that the resulting blue had a distinct greenish tinge. That together with the yellow-green of the grass did clash. I normally don't change images after publication, certainly not content, but in cases like this I have no qualms 🙂
