915 - The Sunnyside Of The Street

One of my less inspired days. We had a big server switch on one of the projects that I was on over the last years, lots of configuration changes, 30000 users affected by any possible outage. Made me kinda nervous. It may have sucked my creativity away.

All went well in the end 🙂

There is no typo in the title. The Song of the Day is not the 1930 Jazz standard “On the Sunny Side of the Street” that we had from the great Roberta Gambarini in “312 - Back to the Sunny Side” and from Cyndi Lauper in “145 - Life can be so Sweet”.

This is hard, drunken Irish folk, this is “The Sunnyside Of The Street” from the 1990 Pogues album “Hell’s Ditch”. Hear it on YouTube. Cheers!

Yes... this is much sharper than 216 or at least the flower and street scene images... it sparkles.

Now on an entirely different subject... Have you tried the free test drive of Alien Skin's Bokeh filter? It is astonishing. It lets you use your longer lens handheld at smaller f stops to assure sharp key detail, but still project the bokeh (controlling the cream) we have come to love from some of the hottest lenses. Is it cheating? Well, duh. A tool's is a tool is a tool, right?

Hmm ... Bokeh filter :-? Nope. I use liberally applied gaussian blurs lately, especially in my b+w process, but otherwise, no. I'll have a look at it.

Well, I just had. Some effects look easy and useful like the T/S on portraits, other seem to need tedious selections, and then you still won't have the subtle sharpness falloff on foreground objects, not to speak of fine detail on hair, etc. Of course one can do that, but I guess it's not for me.
