1944 - The Price You Pay

Have you been on my blog today, say, two hours ago? You may have felt time-warped. No, not again! Really? Really.

My domain has been moved to another server and, lo and behold, instead of moving the current content, they have simply restored their last backup, dating from the time of the last troubles, pretty exactly a month ago.

They didn’t warn me beforehand, they didn’t notify my after the fact, nothing. Obviously they believe I have my account just to pay them some money. Content? Who has content??

Oh well, this is Justhost.com, but only two weeks ago I had similar troubles with a domain and an email account at GoDaddy.com. It’s just the same. It’s not the company, it’s the price you pay. But then, I’m not even sure if more money buys you so much more service, or if so, how much money I’d have to pay.

It was no real problem this time. I had it fixed in about an hour. Again, it’s just that someone without computer background would have no chance at all.

I am not sure how much you pay, or if you are willing to move to a US based company, but I have been very happy with DreamHost.com. They charge me around US$9/month for unlimited storage and bandwidth. If you want to look at it, drop me a line, and we can talk. Least I can do for all the fun posts you put up. 🙂

Don, thanks for the offer, but I'm not going to change. Too much hassle for an uncertain outcome. In fact JustHost .com is US based, and while I currently pay more, it is only for an SSL certificate that I currently don't use. Hmm ... must remember to not renew it next time 😄 The problem is, they are all OK as long as there are no problems. You get what you pay for, and what we pay is really very, very little. I think I would have a more stable environment if I had not a shared account but a private server, but then, that's much more expensive than I want to spend on something that I could have for free on Blogger/Picasa/Flickr. It's a compromise and because this blog does not generate any income, it's not viable spending more.

Well, I've been with bluehost.com for several years and they've always turned in a stellar performance! I'm not moving! 🙂
