927 - The Tower II

Bad weather is here. This is an image taken yesterday afternoon. It did not rain, but that is about all that can be said in favor of that day πŸ˜‰

The church of Maria Gail is just on the other side of the river, five minutes from here by car. It perches on a small hill, overlooking river Gail.

In weather like that, B&W is always a good idea, because it takes quite some contrast manipulations to get an even slightly decent image, and in B&W it is much easier to stretch an image beyond the point where in color it would lose its credibility.

This is the second time that I use “The Tower” as title, “587 - The Tower” was the first time, but it is the first time that Leonard Cohen’s “Tower Of Song” is the Song of the Day. See him perform live on YouTube. This clip is from the 2008 tour, but there are dozens from all phases of his career. Pick your favorite πŸ™‚

The church came throug very good in your picture, really nice work with the contrasts and 'sepia'. The clouds looks good too, with some highlight in the middle, where the tower is seen. Looks really good!

I like this shot. I think I would crop-out the lower portion of the images so that the photo starts at the tree line. Not sure what it is and what it adds to the church. Really nice selection of sepia to communicate this one. Good job, as usual.

Love this glimmering church! ItΒ΄s more a fall-impression, but as I view it now, itΒ΄s also raining and bad weather here. Sunny greetings

I'm a little late in posting, but I just wanted to comment that this picture has more of that "round" light that I seem to like so much. The church just glows: one of my favorite images!

As to cropping, Larry, you have a point. I don't do it for two reasons: I didn't think about it and past is past, and - maybe more important - for me the slightly elevated position of this church is inextricably part of this particular church's appeal to me. I wouldn't want to lose it.

As to the colors and the sky, well, that's all "made", not taken. The sky in the original capture was simply a wash of bluish light gray πŸ™‚
