Yesterday’s image of the Metro sign was taken in Praça do Comércio, one of the main squares of Lisbon, the square facing the river shore.
Today’s images are from the same place. The rider king is King José I, called “The Reformer”. 1755, during his reign, a catastrophic earthquake, followed by a tsunami, destroyed all of what today is Baixa, the commercial center.
At the northern side of the place, where the square opens to Baixa, a giant arc leads into Rua Augusta.
