Dürnstein is a small Town in Wachau, a relatively narrow part of river Danube’s valley. Stift Dürnstein is a former monastery, a baroque jewel and a defining landmark of Wachau.
It is also one of the most touristically overrun places in Austria. This is a sad fact that it shares with Salzburg’s Getreidegasse and the picturesque lake village Hallstadt.
Thankfully I’ve been there early enough to avoid the masses from the big river boats.
