I’ve hinted at possible new lenses yesterday, and here it is, my latest acquisition, one more ultra-wide lens, this time the super light-weight, collapsible Olympus 9-18.
Ugly, huh? In the first picture you see it together with the 17/1.8. It’s slightly bigger, but not much, it comes with a lens hood (!!!) and with hood and lens caps it weighs 183 g, that’s about 50 g less than the Panaleica 25/1.4. Guess which lens must go 😄
In fact the Panaleica is already up for sale, and I think that by the time you read this, it will be gone for about the price that I paid for the 9-18.
Why an ultra-wide at all? Well, there are certain situations, in churches for instance, when 12 mm (equivalent to 24 mm on “full frame”) is simply not wide enough. I won’t use it all the time, but my experience with such lenses shows, that I use them often enough to justify carrying them around, especially when they are so small and light.
